The 2013 budget  delivered a big win for the world’s poor as the Chancellor declared that the UK would become the first G8 nation to spend 0.7% on development aid.

The Burundi Partnership Project

The Burundi parish partnership project is beginning to take shape. John has been in discussions with the Reverend Diane Moon a curate based at St Marks Church, Woodthorpe, and a Diocesan Partnerships Officer.  The Deanery is developing a link with the Burundi Mantana Diocese, led by Archbishop Bernard. The link is in its infancy and will begin by each parish praying for each other, sharing faith stories and developing personal friendships and experiences.  It is hoped to arrange a deanery visit to Burundi early in 2014 in order to develop the process.  A link with an Anglican parish from a culture very different from our own will be a rich source of spiritual and practical support.

The country has suffered from warfare, corruption, poor access to education and the effects of HIV/AIDS. Burundi is densely populated and experiences substantial emigration.
